Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a small baking dish that can comfortably hold the four apples.

Wash the apples thoroughly. Using a paring knife or an apple corer, carefully remove the core from each apple, leaving about 1/2 inch at the bottom to create a cavity for the filling. Be careful not to cut all the way through.

In a small bowl, combine the 2 tablespoons of melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, chopped pecans (or walnuts), and raisins (or dried cranberries). Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Carefully spoon the filling mixture into the hollowed-out center of each apple, packing it gently. Place the filled apples into the prepared baking dish. Pour the 1/2 cup of water into the bottom of the baking dish around the apples.

Bake the apples for 30 to 40 minutes, or until they are tender when pierced with a fork but still hold their shape. The exact baking time will depend on the type and size of your apples.

While the apples are baking, prepare the honey glaze. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the honey, 1 tablespoon of melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Once the apples are baked, remove them from the oven. Drizzle the honey glaze generously over each warm apple. Serve immediately, optionally with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
