Steep the loose leaf black tea (or 4-5 tea bags) in the freshly boiled water, covered, for 4-5 minutes. Be careful not to over-steep, as this can result in bitter tea. (Note: Tea bag weights vary by brand; check the label for a 10g equivalent.)

While the tea is steeping, heat the milk of choice in a saucepan or microwave until it is almost steaming, but not boiling. Warming the milk provides a richer, creamier mouthfeel.

Strain out the tea leaves (or remove tea bags) from the steeped tea. You can save the used tea leaves/bags for another hot tea or cold brew.

Add the hot milk to the strained tea.

Stir in the half and half (or heavy cream + milk).

Mix all ingredients well to combine.

Refrigerate the milk tea until it is thoroughly chilled, or add ice to drink it right away.

Sweeten the milk tea to taste with your preferred sweetener before drinking. Enjoy your homemade milk tea!
