In a large bowl, combine the 500 grams of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Add the 1 large egg, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil, and 250 ml of warm water to the dry ingredients. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until it is smooth.

Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball. Place the dough balls on a tray, cover them tightly with plastic wrap, and let them rest for 30 minutes.

While the dough rests, prepare the filling. In a separate bowl, combine 2 cups of walnuts, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix well.

Melt 250 grams of unsalted butter and set aside.

Generously dust your work surface with cornstarch. Take 4 dough balls at a time and roll out each dough ball as thinly as possible. Do not be shy with the cornstarch between the layers or they will stick together.

Lightly butter the bottom of a 9x13 inch pan. Place the first thin sheet of dough into the buttered pan and brush it generously with melted butter. Repeat this process with 3 more sheets of dough, layering each one and brushing with melted butter. (You will have 4 buttered dough sheets in total at the bottom).

Evenly spread half of the prepared nut filling over the top layer of dough.

Roll out the next 4 dough balls very thinly. Place the first thin sheet of this set on top of the nut layer and brush with melted butter. Repeat with the remaining 3 sheets of this set, layering and buttering each. (This forms the middle layer of dough).

Evenly spread the remaining nut filling over the top layer of dough.

Roll out the final 4 dough balls very thinly. Place the first thin sheet of this final set on top of the nuts and brush with melted butter. Repeat with the remaining 3 sheets, layering and buttering each. (This forms the top layer of dough).

Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the baklava into diamond shapes. Pour any remaining melted butter evenly over the cut baklava.

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Bake the baklava for 45-60 minutes, or until it is deep golden brown. Do not underbake it; wait for that deep golden color.

While the baklava bakes, prepare the syrup. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Let the syrup cool completely.

Once the baklava is hot out of the oven, immediately pour the completely cold syrup evenly over the hot baklava. Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving. This allows the syrup to fully absorb.

Garnish with chopped pistachios before serving. Enjoy!
