Preheat your oven to 170°C. Prepare your baking pan(s) by greasing and flouring them, or lining with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened golden butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract.
Using a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, cream the butter, sugar, and vanilla together until the mixture is light and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.

Add the eggs one by one to the butter mixture, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Continue mixing until the batter is smooth and well combined.

To the batter, add the self-raising flour and evaporated milk.

Mix on low speed until all ingredients are just combined and the batter is smooth. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in a tough cake.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan(s). If making two cakes, divide the batter evenly.

Optionally, place strips of cheese on top of the batter in one of the pans for a savory topping.

Bake the cake(s) in the preheated oven at 170°C for 35 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown and a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

Once baked, remove the cake(s) from the oven and let them cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve.
