In a medium-sized pot, combine the 3 cups of water and 1 cup of milk.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to the pot.
Whisk all the ingredients together in the pot until well combined. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.

Once the mixture is boiling, stir in the 1 cup of old fashioned oats.

Reduce the heat to low and continue to stir the oatmeal for 5 to 7 minutes, or until it reaches a creamy consistency.

Remove the pot from the heat. Add brown sugar to taste, stirring until it is fully dissolved and incorporated into the oatmeal.

Ladle the creamy oatmeal into individual serving bowls.

Garnish each serving with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon and a cinnamon stick, if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
