Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare the bread bowls: Using a sharp knife, carefully cut a circle around the top of each bread roll, about 1/2 inch from the edge. Do not cut all the way through. Gently pull out the top piece of bread. Then, use your fingers or a spoon to hollow out the inside of each roll, leaving about a 1/2-inch thick shell. You can save the removed bread for croutons or breadcrumbs.

In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, garlic powder, and dried oregano. If using, melt the butter and add it to this mixture. Brush the inside and outside of each hollowed-out bread bowl with this seasoned oil (and butter) mixture. This will help them crisp up and add flavor.

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, mini pepperoni slices, and any other desired toppings like crumbled Italian sausage, bell pepper, red onion, or mushrooms. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Carefully spoon the pizza filling mixture into each prepared bread bowl, mounding it slightly. Place the filled bread bowls onto the lined baking sheet.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread bowls are golden brown and slightly crispy. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.

Remove from the oven. If desired, garnish with fresh chopped basil and grated Parmesan cheese before serving. Let them cool for a few minutes before handling, as the filling will be very hot.
