Bring a large pot of heavily salted water to a rolling boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente.

While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced zucchini and cook, stirring occasionally, until just tender but still with a slight bite, about 3-5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic to the skillet with the zucchini and cook for 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

Add the roughly chopped cherry tomatoes to the skillet. Cook gently, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften and release their juices, about 5-7 minutes.

Before draining the pasta, reserve 1 cup of the starchy pasta water. Drain the pasta and set aside.

Add a splash (about 1/4 to 1/2 cup) of the reserved pasta water to the skillet with the vegetables. Stir well to create a light, silky sauce. Add more pasta water if needed to reach desired consistency.

Add the cooked and drained pasta to the skillet with the vegetables and sauce. Toss well to combine.

Stir in the capers, fresh torn basil, and grated Parmesan cheese. Toss again until everything is well incorporated.

Serve immediately, garnished with additional grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
