Place the entire pack of Oreo cookies into a food processor or blender. Process until the cookies are finely crushed into crumbs.

Pour the Oreo crumbs into a large bowl. Add the melted unsalted butter to the crumbs and mix thoroughly until all crumbs are moistened.

Press the buttered Oreo mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish to form the crust. Place the crust into the freezer to chill while preparing the next layer.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar. Mix with an electric mixer until smooth and well combined.

Add approximately half of the 12-ounce container of Cool Whip to the cream cheese mixture. Fold in the Cool Whip gently until fully incorporated.

Spread this cream cheese mixture evenly over the chilled Oreo crust in the baking dish.

In the same large mixing bowl (without washing it), add the two packs of instant chocolate pudding mix. Pour in the cold milk.

Whisk or mix with an electric mixer until the pudding thickens, which typically takes a few minutes.

Spread this chocolate pudding mixture evenly over the cream cheese layer in the baking dish.

Spread the remaining Cool Whip evenly over the chocolate pudding layer.

Garnish the top with chocolate shavings, using a grater to create them directly over the dessert if desired.

Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the dessert to set.

Once chilled and set, slice and serve.
