Preheat your oven to 325°F. Melt the 1/2 cup of butter directly in a 9 x 12 inch baking pan. If desired, stir in 1 tablespoon of brown sugar bourbon or vanilla extract into the melted butter for enhanced flavor.

Evenly spread the 1 cup of graham cracker crumbs over the melted butter in the pan.

Distribute 2/3 bag of coconut as the next layer over the graham cracker crumbs.

Sprinkle the 6 ounce package of chocolate chips evenly over the coconut layer.

Add the 6 ounce package of butterscotch chips as the next layer, spreading them out evenly.

Pour the entire can of sweetened condensed milk evenly over all the layers. Use a spatula to scrape out the can completely to ensure full coverage.

Top the bars with the 1 cup of chopped pecans.

Bake the pan at 325°F for 20 minutes.

After 20 minutes, carefully remove the pan from the oven. Use a spatula to gently press down all over the mixture to compact the layers.

Return the pan to the oven and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes. The total baking time will be 30 minutes.

Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely at room temperature before cutting into squares and serving. This cooling process can take at least an hour.
