Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9x13 baking pan with parchment paper, allowing the excess paper to hang slightly over the edges for easy removal after baking. Spray the parchment paper with baking spray.

Place the drained sweet potatoes in a large mixing bowl. Beat them with an electric mixer until they are mostly smooth.

Add the butter yellow cake mix, 2 large eggs, 1/2 cup melted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon to the bowl with the sweet potatoes. Mix well with the electric mixer until all ingredients are combined into a smooth batter.

Pour the prepared cake batter into the lined 9x13 baking pan and spread it evenly across the bottom.

In a separate bowl, combine the 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 8 ounces softened cream cheese, the remaining 2 large eggs, and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix well with an electric mixer until the mixture is smooth and lump-free.

Pour the cream cheese mixture evenly over the top of the cake batter in the pan.

Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the edges are set and just beginning to pull away from the sides, and the center is slightly jiggly. A wooden skewer inserted into the cake part (not the topping) should come out mostly clean.

Let the cake cool completely in the pan to allow the layers to settle before cutting it into squares. This will take at least 1 hour.
