Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C).

Grease a large ramekin (10oz to top rim and 4.25 inches across the top) with butter. Optionally, add a circle of parchment paper to the bottom for easier removal.

In a medium bowl, use a fork or rubber spatula to stir together the softened butter and 2 tablespoons of white sugar until combined. 'Smoosh' the mixture against the side of the bowl to cream things together thoroughly.

Mix in the egg yolk and vanilla extract until combined, then mix in the milk. The mixture may appear slightly curdled, which is normal and will resolve once the dry ingredients are added.

Fold in the all purpose flour, baking powder, and kosher salt. Mix until the batter is combined and smooth.

In a small separate bowl, mix together the 1 1/2 tablespoons of white sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon for the cinnamon sugar swirl.

Pour about half of the prepared batter into the greased ramekin and spread it into an even layer.

Sprinkle about half of the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the first layer of batter.

Top with the remaining half of the batter, spreading it gently over the cinnamon sugar, and then sprinkle on the rest of the cinnamon sugar.

Use a butter knife or a skewer to gently swirl through the batter, creating a marbled effect.

Bake for 22-26 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just moist crumbs, not wet batter. Baking time may vary depending on your oven and ramekin size.

If the cinnamon sugar topping begins to brown too quickly, you can loosely cover the ramekin with a piece of aluminum foil during the last few minutes of baking.

Remove from oven and enjoy warm.
