Bring a medium pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the frozen peas and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until bright green and tender. Drain well.

Return the drained peas to the hot pot (off the heat). Add the butter, chopped fresh dill, lemon zest, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper.

Using a potato masher or a fork, gently smash the peas until they are roughly crushed but still have some texture. Do not over-mash into a smooth puree.

Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more salt, pepper, or lemon juice to your preference. Serve immediately as a side dish.
