Bring a large pot of generously salted water to a rolling boil. Add the linguine and cook according to package directions until al dente. Before draining, reserve 1 1/2 cups of the pasta cooking water.

While the pasta cooks, pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and season with 1 teaspoon of kosher salt and the black pepper.

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side, until pink and just cooked through. Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.

Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the same skillet. Sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Pour in the white wine and bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, until slightly reduced.

Stir in the lemon zest and lemon juice. Add the cooked linguine to the skillet along with 1 cup of the reserved pasta water. Toss to combine.

Add the butter and Parmesan cheese to the pasta, tossing continuously until the butter is melted and the cheese is incorporated, creating a creamy sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add more reserved pasta water, 1/4 cup at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss gently to combine and heat through. Stir in the fresh parsley.

Serve immediately, garnished with additional grated Parmesan cheese and a lemon wedge, if desired.
