Divide the fresh basil leaves (8 per glass) into two cocktail shakers (16 leaves per shaker).

Gently muddle the basil leaves in each shaker to release their aromatic oils. Be careful not to over-muddle, which can make the basil bitter.

To each shaker, add 4 fluid ounces of gin, 2 fluid ounces of fresh lemon juice, and 1 fluid ounce of simple syrup.

Fill both shakers completely with ice.

Securely cap the shakers and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds, until the shakers are well-chilled and frosty on the outside.

Fill four rocks glasses with fresh ice.

Double strain the contents of each shaker into two of the prepared rocks glasses, ensuring no basil bits or ice shards pass through. A fine mesh sieve over a regular strainer works best for this.

Garnish each Gin Basil Smash with a fresh basil sprig before serving immediately. Enjoy!
