Prepare the ginger: Using the end of a spoon or a vegetable peeler, carefully peel the fresh ginger root. Once peeled, thinly slice the ginger into small pieces.

Prepare the lemon: Thoroughly wash the organic lemon. Using a sharp knife, slice the lemon into very thin rounds or half-rounds to maximize the exposed flesh.

Layer the ingredients: In a clean glass jar, create alternating layers of the thinly sliced ginger and lemon until the jar is nearly full.

Add the honey: Slowly pour the local raw honey over the layered ginger and lemon. Ensure all the ingredients are completely submerged and covered by the honey. Stir gently with a spoon to release any air bubbles and help the honey settle.

Add cayenne pepper: Sprinkle at least 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper over the mixture. Stir again to evenly distribute the spice throughout the elixir.

Store and meld: Close the jar tightly with a lid. Store the elixir in a cool, dark place for at least two days to allow the flavors to fully meld and infuse.

To enjoy as a hot drink: When ready to consume, take a portion of the preserved lemon and ginger (along with some of the honey liquid) from the jar. Mix it with hot water to create a soothing and warming beverage.

To enjoy as a shot: Alternatively, for a quick boost or when feeling a little down, consume a straight shot of the liquid from the jar.
