Preheat your oven to 350°F.

In a small bowl, combine the salt, brown sugar, garlic powder, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and a pinch of sesame seeds to create the rub.

Generously rub the prepared mixture over all sides of the chuck roast pieces, ensuring they are well coated.

Heat a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the beef tallow to the hot Dutch oven. Once the tallow is hot, place the chuck roast pieces in and sear them on all sides until they are deeply browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.

After searing, add the beef bone broth (or beef stock or water) to the pot. If using a larger chuck roast, add an extra 1/4 cup of liquid.

Place the lid securely on the Dutch oven and transfer it to the preheated oven. Bake for 2 hours, or until the roast is tender enough to be easily shredded with a fork. For larger roasts, cooking time may extend to 3 hours.

Once the roast is tender, carefully remove the lid from the Dutch oven. Pour the Bachan’s Japanese BBQ Sauce over the cooked meat. Using two forks, shred the chuck roast directly in the Dutch oven. Mix the shredded beef thoroughly with the sauce.

While the roast is finishing, prepare the steamed jasmine rice according to package directions.

Transfer the shredded Japanese BBQ beef to a serving dish. Garnish with freshly sliced scallions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

Serve the Japanese BBQ beef over the steamed jasmine rice. Spoon any extra sauce remaining in the Dutch oven over the top of the beef and rice. Finish with a few more scallions and sesame seeds for an appealing presentation.
