Add the ground beef and diced yellow onion to a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat.

Cook the meat, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it is fully browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease from the pan.

Season the cooked beef and onions with garlic powder, black pepper, and the packet of onion soup mix. Stir well to ensure the meat is evenly coated with the seasonings.

Pour the beef broth into the skillet with the seasoned beef mixture. Bring the mixture to a boil.

Once boiling, add the instant rice to the pan. Stir the rice until it is nicely combined with the liquid and submerged as much as possible.

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan with a lid, and cook for 10 minutes, allowing the rice to absorb the liquid.
