Line a 9x13 inch baking dish with parchment paper and spray it with nonstick spray. Set the prepared dish aside.
In a large pot, melt the 1/2 cup of unsalted butter over medium-low heat. Continue to cook the butter, stirring occasionally, until it turns a light golden brown color and develops a nutty aroma. This process typically takes about 5-7 minutes.

Add the 16 ounces of mini marshmallows to the pot with the browned butter. Stir constantly until the marshmallows are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

Remove the pot from the heat.

Stir in the 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Add the 6 cups of Cocoa Puffs cereal to the pot. Gently fold the cereal into the marshmallow mixture until it is evenly coated.

Transfer the coated cereal mixture to the prepared 9x13 inch baking dish.

Using a buttered spatula or lightly buttered hands to prevent sticking, press the mixture evenly into the pan.

If desired, sprinkle flaky sea salt over the top of the treats.

Allow the treats to cool completely at room temperature, or chill them in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to set.

Once the treats are set, cut them into squares and serve.
