Preheat your oven to 375°F. Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking dish or a similar sized oven-safe dish.

In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, 1/4 cup of light brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and the 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Toss gently until the apples are evenly coated. Pour the coated apples into the prepared baking dish and spread them into an even layer.

Pour the 1/4 cup of water over the apples in the baking dish. This will help keep the apples moist and create a delicious sauce.

In a separate medium bowl, prepare the oat topping. Combine the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of light brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Mix well.

Add the 2 tablespoons of cold, cut butter to the oat mixture. Use your fingertips or a pastry blender to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Evenly sprinkle the oat topping over the apples in the baking dish.

Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork and the oat topping is golden brown and crisp. If the topping browns too quickly, you can loosely cover the dish with aluminum foil for the last 10-15 minutes of baking.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!
