Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan, or line with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a separate medium bowl, mash the ripe bananas thoroughly with a fork until mostly smooth but with a few small lumps remaining. Stir in the melted butter, beaten egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are fine. Fold in the chopped walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.

Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. If the top starts to brown too quickly, you can loosely tent it with aluminum foil.

Remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before carefully transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
