Place each chicken breast between two sheets of plastic wrap. Using a meat mallet or the bottom of a heavy pan, gently pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch.

Season both sides of the flattened chicken breasts generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Prepare your breading station: In a shallow bowl, beat the egg. In a separate shallow dish, combine the 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs.

Dip each seasoned chicken breast first into the beaten egg, ensuring it's fully coated, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, transfer the chicken to the Parmesan and breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure an even and thorough coating on all sides.

Heat the olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the coated chicken breasts in the skillet. Pan-fry for 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until the crust is golden brown and crispy, and the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside on a plate.

Using the same skillet (no need to clean it), melt the 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, until fragrant but not browned.

Pour in the 1/2 cup heavy cream and stir. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then add the 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese. Continue to stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth and slightly thickened.

Return the cooked Parmesan crusted chicken to the skillet with the sauce, or place the chicken on serving plates and generously spoon the creamy garlic sauce over each piece. Serve warm.
