In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, 1 cup of white sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk these dry ingredients thoroughly until well combined.

In a separate medium bowl, crack the egg, then add the fresh milk and melted butter. Whisk these wet ingredients until they are well combined.

Pour the whisked wet ingredients into the bowl containing the dry ingredients.

Mix the ingredients together until a cohesive dough forms. Briefly knead the dough by hand for about 1-2 minutes until it comes together smoothly.

Lightly dust a clean work surface with flour. Place the dough on the floured surface and use a rolling pin to roll it out into a thin sheet, about 1/8-inch thick.

Using a knife or a pizza cutter, cut the thin dough sheet into thin strips, approximately 1/4-inch wide and 4-5 inches long.

Take each strip of dough and gently roll it between your palms or on the work surface to form a thin, elongated stick shape. Aim for a consistent thickness.

Heat a generous amount of oil in a deep pan or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until it reaches 350-375°F (175-190°C).

Carefully place a few dough sticks into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them, turning occasionally, until they turn golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per batch.

Once golden brown, remove the fried sticks from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack set over a baking sheet or on paper towels to drain any excess oil.

While the fried sticks are still hot, transfer them to a bowl filled with white sugar. Toss them gently until each stick is evenly coated with sugar. Serve warm and enjoy!
