Prepare the Sauce: In a small saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, granulated sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.

Preheat Oven and Prepare Dough: Place a pizza stone or inverted baking sheet in the oven and preheat to 475°F. Allow it to preheat for at least 30 minutes to ensure it's very hot. On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough into a 12-14 inch circle.

Assemble the Pizza: Carefully transfer the dough to a piece of parchment paper or a pizza peel dusted with cornmeal. Brush the edges of the dough with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Spread the prepared sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella cheese over the sauce. Arrange pepperoni slices and crumbled Italian sausage over the cheese. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese and the grated Parmesan cheese. If desired, sprinkle with red pepper flakes.

Bake the Pizza: Carefully slide the pizza (on parchment paper or directly from the peel) onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven. Let it rest for 2-3 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh chopped basil. Serve hot.
