In a large bowl, combine the bread flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix these dry ingredients thoroughly.

Add the large egg and warm milk to the bowl with the dry ingredients.

Mix the ingredients until a shaggy dough forms.

Add the softened unsalted butter to the dough.

Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. This can be done using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment or by hand.

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Once risen, gently punch down the dough to release the air.

Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces, each weighing approximately 85 grams.

Shape each piece of dough into a smooth, round ball.

Place the shaped dough balls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are spaced apart to allow for further rising.

Cover the dough balls and let them rise for another 45-60 minutes, or until visibly puffy.

While the buns are rising for the second time, prepare the egg wash by whisking the egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of milk in a small bowl.

Once the buns have risen, gently brush the egg wash over the top of each bun.

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Remove from the oven and let the brioche burger buns cool completely on a wire rack before serving.
