Preheat your oven to 350°F. Prepare a standard loaf pan by lining it with parchment paper. To make the parchment paper conform to the pan's shape more easily, you can wet it, wring it out, and then press it into the pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, 2 cups all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and 1 tablespoon cinnamon for the loaf mixture. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the egg, 1 cup milk, and 1/3 cup melted butter (do not add the apples yet).

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Gently fold in the grated apples.

In another small bowl, prepare the crumble topping by combining 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 4 tablespoons melted butter. Mix with a fork until crumbly.

Pour half of the loaf batter into the prepared bread pan. Sprinkle half of the crumble mixture evenly over the batter. Carefully spoon the remaining loaf batter over the crumble layer, then top with the remaining crumble mixture.

Bake the loaf for 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If your oven tends to run hot, start checking a few minutes early. Once baked, remove the loaf from the oven and let it cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the loaf is cooling, prepare the icing drizzle. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of milk. If the drizzle is too thin, add a little more powdered sugar (1 teaspoon at a time). If it's too thick, add a tiny bit more milk (1/2 teaspoon at a time) until it reaches your desired consistency.

Once the loaf has cooled completely, drizzle the icing over the top. Slice and enjoy! This loaf is perfect with a cup of coffee for a fall breakfast or as a delightful after-dinner treat.
