Preheat your oven to 350°F. Prepare a 9x9 inch square baking dish by lightly spraying it with cooking spray.

Peel and core the apples, then cut each apple into four wedges, resulting in a total of 8 apple wedges. Open the can of crescent roll dough and separate the dough into 8 triangles.

Place one apple wedge on the wide end of each crescent roll triangle. Roll the dough tightly around the apple wedge, starting from the wide end. Pinch the ends of the crescent roll dough to seal the apple inside, forming a dumpling. Arrange the assembled dumplings in a single layer in the prepared baking dish.

In a small bowl or large measuring cup, combine the melted unsalted butter, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Whisk the mixture until it is well combined and smooth.

Carefully pour the butter and sugar mixture evenly over the top of the apple dumplings in the baking dish.

Gently pour the clear soda around the dumplings in the baking dish, being careful not to pour it directly on top of them. The soda will help create a delicious crust.

Bake the dumplings uncovered for 40 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a knife and the crescent rolls are golden brown and puffed.

Remove the baking dish from the oven and let the apple dumplings stand for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
