Drain the 3 cans of pinto beans thoroughly. Transfer the drained pinto beans to a blender.

Pour 1 cup of stock (homemade seafood stock is recommended for best flavor) into the blender with the beans. Secure the lid on the blender.

Blend the mixture until it reaches a smooth consistency. The mixture will be a little loose at this stage but will thicken considerably as it cooks.

Place a large skillet or pan over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of lard. Allow the lard to melt completely.

Once the lard has melted, add the 1/2 chopped white onion to the pan. Sauté the onion for about 2 minutes, or until it becomes translucent and softened.

Add 1 tablespoon of garlic paste to the pan with the onions and mix well, cooking for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of cumin into the pan, mixing it thoroughly with the onion and garlic. Cook for about 30 seconds to 'bloom' the cumin and enhance its flavor.

Carefully pour the blended bean mixture into the pan with the cooked aromatics. Stir everything together to combine.

Reduce the heat to low-medium and allow the mixture to simmer, stirring occasionally, until it starts to thicken to your desired consistency. This can take 5-10 minutes. Be mindful as the beans can splatter.

Season the refried beans with 1/2 teaspoon of salt, or to taste, and stir it in. Continue to cook for another minute to allow the flavors to meld.

Once the beans have thickened to the desired consistency, they are ready to be served. Enjoy as a hearty breakfast or side dish!
