Rinse the white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This usually takes 2-3 rinses.

Combine the rinsed white rice and water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until all the water has been absorbed.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 10 minutes. Do not lift the lid during this time.

Fluff the cooked rice with a fork. Scoop 1 cup of cooked rice into each of 4 individual serving bowls.

Drizzle 1 tablespoon of soy sauce over the rice in each bowl.

Place 2 pieces of unsalted butter on top of the rice and soy sauce in each bowl.

Thoroughly mix all the ingredients together in each bowl using a spoon. Continue mixing until the butter is melted and evenly incorporated, and the rice is coated with the soy sauce and butter. Serve immediately.
