Grease the base of your slow cooker.

Add the 900g of green apples (weighed before peeling/chopping) to the greased slow cooker.

Add 1/3 cup of white sugar, 1/2 tablespoon of cornflour, 1 to 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon, and a squeeze of lemon juice to the apples in the slow cooker.

Mix all the apple ingredients thoroughly until the apples are evenly coated.

In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup of plain flour, 1 cup of rolled oats, 2 to 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon sugar (if using), 125g of melted butter, and a pinch of salt.

Using your fingertips, rub the crumble ingredients together until you have chunky crumbs.

Sprinkle the prepared crumble mixture evenly over the apples in the slow cooker.

Place a clean tea towel under the slow cooker lid to help catch condensation and keep the crumble topping crisp. Cook on HIGH for 2 to 3 hours, or on LOW for 4 to 5 hours.

Check the crumble at the 2-hour mark if cooking on HIGH, or the 4-hour mark if cooking on LOW. If the apples need more time to soften, continue cooking in 20 to 30 minute increments.

If you notice excess moisture during the last 10-15 minutes of cooking, remove the lid completely to allow it to evaporate and help crisp the topping.

Once cooked, let the apple crumble sit in the slow cooker for 10 to 15 minutes before serving to allow the filling to thicken.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, custard, or both, as desired.
