Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Place the 2 sticks of unsalted butter into a cast iron skillet. Put the skillet with the butter into the preheated oven to melt the butter. This will take approximately 5-7 minutes.

While the butter is melting, prepare the banana filling. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the sliced ripe bananas, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground nutmeg, and ground cinnamon. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until the bananas are well coated. Set aside.

In a separate medium mixing bowl, prepare the cobbler topping. Whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Pour the milk into the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth batter is formed. Be careful not to overmix.

Carefully remove the hot skillet with the melted butter from the oven. The butter should be completely melted and slightly bubbling.

Pour the prepared cobbler batter directly over the melted butter in the skillet. Do not stir or mix the batter and butter.

Evenly spoon the banana mixture on top of the batter in the skillet. Ensure all the delicious sauce created from the banana mixture is also added to the skillet. Again, do not stir or mix the layers.

Place the skillet back into the preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for approximately 40 to 45 minutes, or until the cobbler is golden brown, bubbly, and a toothpick inserted into the topping comes out clean.

Once baked, carefully remove the cobbler from the oven and allow it to cool slightly for about 10 minutes before serving. This allows the cobbler to set.
