Add the baby cherry or grape tomatoes, halved garlic cloves, peppercorns, and fresh basil sprigs to a 1-quart-size glass jar fitted with a lid.

In a small saucepan, combine the water, white wine vinegar, kosher salt, white sugar, and crushed red pepper.

Place the saucepan over high heat. Cook, stirring often, until the salt and sugar have fully dissolved. Remove from heat just before the mixture comes to a simmer.

Carefully pour the hot brine over the tomatoes and other ingredients in the prepared jar. Seal the jar with its lid.

Allow the sealed jar to cool completely to room temperature on your countertop.

Once cooled, place the jar in the refrigerator until the pickled tomatoes are completely chilled, which will take at least 8 hours. For best flavor, allow them to pickle for 24 hours before serving. The pickled tomatoes can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
