In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef and ground pork. Use your hands to gently break up the meat.

In a separate small bowl, whisk together the large egg, Panko breadcrumbs, and whole milk. Let this mixture sit for 5 minutes to allow the breadcrumbs to soften.

Add the breadcrumb mixture, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped fresh parsley, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the meat mixture.

Gently mix all ingredients together with your hands until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatballs tough.

Roll the mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs. You should get approximately 18-20 meatballs.

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the meatballs in a single layer, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.

Sear the meatballs on all sides until nicely browned, about 5-7 minutes total. They don't need to be cooked through at this stage.

Pour the marinara sauce over the browned meatballs. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and tender.

Serve hot with your favorite pasta, on a sub roll, or as an appetizer. Garnish with extra Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley, if desired.
