Ensure your glass jar is clean and sterilized. Begin by layering the ingredients into the jar. Place a layer of sliced lemon rounds at the bottom.

Add a layer of fresh thyme sprigs over the lemon.

Follow with a layer of sliced fresh turmeric root.

Next, add a layer of sliced fresh ginger root.

Repeat the layering process (lemon, thyme, turmeric, ginger) until the jar is almost full, leaving about 1 inch of space from the top.

Sprinkle the freshly ground black pepper over the layered ingredients. This helps activate the beneficial compounds in the turmeric.

Slowly pour the local raw honey over all the ingredients, ensuring they are completely submerged. Tap the jar gently on the counter to release any air bubbles.

Seal the jar tightly with a lid. Place the jar in a cool, dark place to infuse for 3 to 7 days. During this infusion period, flip the jar daily to ensure all ingredients are evenly coated and infused.

After the infusion period, the homemade cough syrup is ready. You can strain out the solids if desired, or leave them in. Store the syrup in the refrigerator.

To use, take 1-2 tablespoons straight, or mix into warm water or tea.
