Prepare the beef by trimming off any desired excess fat and cutting it into chunks.

In the slow cooker, add the beef, chopped onion, and plain flour. Mix all ingredients together until well combined.

In a small bowl, combine the bone broth or beef stock, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, honey, Chinese five spice, garlic powder, ground ginger, and salt. Mix until well combined.

Pour the sauce mixture into the slow cooker with the beef and onion. Mix thoroughly until the beef is evenly coated.

Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-7 hours, or on high for 4-5 hours.

Approximately one hour before the end of the cooking time, mix the 1 tablespoon of cornflour with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Add this slurry to the slow cooker and stir well.

Continue to cook until the beef is very tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.

Feel free to shred the beef directly in the slow cooker with two forks. Mix it through the sauce and serve as desired.
