Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package directions until al dente. Before draining, reserve 1 cup of the starchy pasta water.

While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat.

Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the pan. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Add the halved cherry tomatoes to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes begin to soften and burst.

Stir in the fresh basil leaves, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another minute until the basil is wilted.

Add the cooked and drained spaghetti to the skillet with the tomato mixture. Pour in 1/2 cup of the reserved pasta water and add 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese.

Toss everything together vigorously using tongs until the pasta is well coated and a creamy sauce forms. If the sauce seems too dry, add more pasta water, 1-2 tablespoons at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.

Divide the pasta among serving plates. Garnish with additional grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves before serving.
