Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch ceramic casserole dish.

Heat cooking oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, pressing it into an even layer across the bottom of the pan. Cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes to develop a crust, then break up the meat with a spatula and continue cooking until mostly browned.

Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Add the diced white onion to the browned ground beef and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the onions have softened slightly.

Stir in the garlic powder, yellow mustard, and ketchup. Mix thoroughly until the ground beef mixture is well combined and coated with the sauces.

Transfer the seasoned ground beef mixture into the prepared casserole dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom.

Evenly sprinkle the diced dill pickles over the ground beef layer. Drizzle additional yellow mustard and ketchup over the pickles, if desired. Scatter the chopped green onions (reserving some for garnish) over the pickles.

Cover the entire mixture with a generous, even layer of shredded cheddar cheese.

Arrange the frozen tater tots in neat, even rows across the top of the cheese layer. Gently press the tater tots down slightly to ensure they are nestled into the cheese and meat mixture.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy, and the cheese underneath is melted and bubbly.

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Scoop individual portions into bowls. Garnish with additional drizzles of ketchup, burger sauce (if using), and fresh chopped green onions.
