In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Gently mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and form them into patties, about 3/4-inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent bulging during cooking.

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the burger patties. Cook for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or adjust cooking time to your desired doneness.

During the last 2 minutes of cooking, spread 1/4 cup of pizza sauce over the top of each burger patty. Sprinkle generously with shredded mozzarella cheese and top with pepperoni slices.

Cover the skillet or pan with a lid (or tent with foil) and continue to cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

While the cheese is melting, lightly toast the burger buns.

Carefully transfer the pizza burgers to the toasted buns. Garnish with fresh chopped basil, if desired, and serve immediately.
