In a large bowl, combine the warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.

Add 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, the melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.

Gradually add the all-purpose flour, starting with 4 cups, mixing until a soft dough forms. Add up to an additional 1/2 cup of flour as needed until the dough is no longer sticky.

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

Lightly grease a clean bowl. Place the kneaded dough in the bowl, turning once to coat. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

While the dough is rising, prepare the black sesame filling. In a medium bowl, combine the room temperature butter, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and black sesame powder. Mix until well combined and creamy.

Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release the air.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a large rectangle, approximately 12x18 inches.

Evenly spread the black sesame filling over the entire surface of the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border on one long edge if desired.

Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.

Using a sharp knife or unflavored dental floss, cut the log into 12 equal slices (rolls).

Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking pan. Arrange the cut rolls in the prepared pan.

Cover the pan with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let the rolls rise again in a warm place for 30-45 minutes, or until they look puffy.

Preheat your oven to 375°F.

Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through.

While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze. In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Start with 1 tablespoon of milk.

Whisk the glaze ingredients until smooth and creamy. Add the second tablespoon of milk if needed to reach your desired consistency.

Once the rolls are out of the oven, immediately spread the prepared glaze evenly over the warm rolls. Serve warm.
