Preheat your oven to 180°C. Prepare small, round baking cups or molds by lightly greasing them.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients for the cake: 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup cocoa, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Mix well to combine.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture: 1 egg, 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup oil, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 1/2 cup hot water. Whisk all ingredients together until the batter is smooth and well combined.

Pour the cake batter evenly into the prepared small, round baking cups/molds.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cake comes out clean.

While the cakes are baking, prepare the chocolate sauce. In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup cocoa, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup milk, 2 tablespoons cornstarch, 2 tablespoons butter, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.

Place the saucepan over medium heat and whisk the mixture continuously until it thickens and becomes smooth. Remove from heat once desired consistency is reached.

Once the cakes are baked, carefully remove them from their molds and place one individual cake into each teacup.

Generously pour the warm chocolate sauce over the cakes in the teacups. Serve immediately and enjoy your Matilda Cup!
