Combine the washed pearl barley, water, and knotted pandan leaves in a pressure cooker. Cook for 20 minutes.

Allow the pressure to release naturally from the cooker before opening the lid. Once opened, stir in the chopped gula Melaka and sugar over medium-low heat until both are fully dissolved and the dessert becomes thick and creamy.

Add the coconut milk and salt to the mixture. Simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes, being careful not to over-boil after adding the coconut milk.

Serve the Mak Juk warm and enjoy. If the dessert thickens upon cooling, add a little hot water to reach your desired consistency and gently reheat.
