Preheat your oven to 375°F. Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking dish or a similar oven-safe dish large enough to hold the apples snugly.

Prepare the apples: Using an apple corer or a small paring knife, carefully remove the core from each apple, leaving about 1/2 inch at the bottom so the filling doesn't leak out. You can also peel the top 1/3 of each apple for a softer skin texture, if desired.

Place the cored apples into the prepared baking dish. In the center cavity of each apple, place one piece of butter.

In a small bowl, combine the ground cinnamon and honey. Stir well until the cinnamon is fully incorporated into the honey. Carefully spoon the honey-cinnamon mixture into the center of each apple, dividing it evenly.

Pour the hot water into the bottom of the baking dish, around the apples. This will create steam and help the apples cook evenly and prevent them from drying out.

Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. The exact baking time will depend on the size and variety of your apples. Baste the apples with the pan juices once or twice during baking for extra flavor and shine.

Carefully remove the baking dish from the oven. Let the apples cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, spooning any remaining pan juices over the top of each apple. These are delicious on their own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
