Preheat your oven to 180°C. Grease and flour a 20cm round cake pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: buttermilk, hot coffee, vegetable oil, large eggs, and vanilla extract.

Pour the wet ingredients mixture into the dry ingredients mixture. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Pour the cake batter into the prepared 20cm cake pan.

Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Let the cake cool completely in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool further before proceeding to frosting. This can take up to an hour.

While the cake cools, prepare the chocolate fudge frosting. In a large bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and unsweetened cocoa powder until the mixture is smooth.

Gradually add the powdered sugar to the butter and cocoa mixture, mixing until it is fully combined.

Slowly pour in the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Beat the frosting mixture on high speed until it becomes light and fluffy.

Once the cake has completely cooled, apply a thick layer of the prepared chocolate fudge frosting on top of the cake. Spread the frosting evenly across the surface.

Optionally, decorate the cake with chocolate shavings for an extra touch.
