Preheat your oven to 400°F. Lightly flour a clean work surface.

Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal portions. Take one portion and, using a rolling pin, flatten it into a circular shape, about 7-8 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch thick.

Spread 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce over one half of the flattened dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edge. Sprinkle about 1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.

Carefully fold the dough in half to create a crescent shape, enclosing the filling. Press the edges together firmly to seal. For an extra secure seal and decorative touch, crimp the edges with the tines of a fork.

Repeat steps 2-4 with the remaining dough portions and filling. Place the prepared calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Brush the top of each calzone with olive oil. Optionally, make 2-3 small slits on the top of each calzone with a sharp knife to allow steam to escape during baking.

Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the calzones are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve hot.
