Place 1 cup of unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Melt the butter completely, then continue to cook, swirling occasionally, until the butter turns a rich golden brown color and smells fragrant and nutty.

Immediately transfer the browned butter to a heatproof bowl to stop the cooking process. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes.

Add 3/4 cup of light brown sugar and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar to the cooled browned butter. Mix thoroughly with a hand mixer. Add 2 large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Continue mixing until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.

In a separate medium-sized bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredient mixture. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate bars) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Cover the bowl of cookie dough with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop portions of the chilled cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt over each cookie dough ball.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are golden brown and the centers are still slightly gooey.

Let the baked cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before carefully transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
