Finely chop the 4 cloves of garlic and the 1/2 onion. Roughly chop the fresh basil.

Heat a large pan or skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil, ensuring the bottom of the pan is coated.

Add the chopped garlic and onion to the heated pan. Sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the aromatics are fragrant and the onion is translucent and softened.

Add the 300 grams of cherry tomatoes to the pan. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon of chilli flakes (or to your taste). Stir well to combine all ingredients.

Cover the pan with a lid and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes. This will allow the tomatoes to soften and release their juices.

While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add the 250 grams of pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Before draining, reserve approximately 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water.

After 10 minutes, remove the lid from the sauce. The tomatoes should be visibly softened and bursting. Use a wooden spoon or a potato masher to gently smash the tomatoes in the pan, creating a saucy consistency.

Add the cooked pasta directly into the pan with the tomato sauce. Add a splash (about 1/4 cup) of the reserved pasta water, the chopped fresh basil, and the 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese.

Toss everything thoroughly until the pasta is well coated with the sauce. If the sauce seems too thick, add a little more pasta water until it reaches your desired consistency. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Serve immediately, garnished with extra fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
