Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease and flour an 8x8 inch baking pan, or line with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt. Make sure there are no lumps.

In a separate medium bowl, combine the mashed bananas, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few small lumps are okay.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. The cake should be golden brown.

While the cake cools, prepare the cream cheese frosting. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and softened butter with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.

Gradually add the powdered sugar to the cream cheese mixture, beating until light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Once the cake has cooled completely, spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the top. Slice and serve.
