Add the white rice, steel cut oats, and optional black rice to the inner pot of your rice cooker.

Rinse the mixture of grains thoroughly under cool running water. Swish the grains around gently with your hand to wash them, then carefully drain the cloudy water. Repeat this rinsing and draining process 2-3 times, or until the water runs mostly clear.

Place the inner pot with the rinsed grains back into the rice cooker.

Add 3 cups of fresh water to the pot with the grains.

Close the lid of the rice cooker securely.

Select the "GRAIN BROWN" setting on your rice cooker (or the equivalent "mixed grain setting" if your model has it).

Press the "START" button to begin the cooking cycle.

Once the rice cooker cycle is complete, carefully open the lid. The cooked mixture will be a sticky, purple oat rice.

Using a rice paddle, gently fluff and mix the sticky purple oat rice in the pot to evenly distribute the grains.

Serve immediately as a healthy and filling side dish or base for your favorite meals. Enjoy!
