Preheat the oven’s broiler to Low Broil.

Place 2 half slices of provolone cheese on each half of each hoagie roll.

Place the hoagie rolls with cheese on a baking sheet.

Broil the hoagie rolls in the center of the oven until the cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes. Keep a close eye on them to prevent burning.

Meanwhile, combine the beef consomme, French onion soup, and water in a saucepan.

Heat the mixture in the saucepan over medium heat, stirring with a wooden spoon, until just simmering.

Add the thinly sliced roast beef to the simmering liquid, using tongs to submerge and separate the slices. Heat the beef through for 2 to 3 minutes.

Remove the roast beef from the soup using tongs, allowing any excess liquid to drip back into the saucepan.

Divide the heated roast beef evenly among the broiled hoagie rolls with melted cheese.

Divide the soup (jus) into 4 dipping bowls and serve the sandwiches with the jus for dipping.
