Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add the linguine and cook until it is just shy of al dente, according to package directions. Before draining, reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water and set aside.

While the pasta cooks, heat 6 tablespoons of olive oil in a large sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add the minced shallots and garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, or until they are fragrant and just beginning to turn golden.

Pour the dry white wine into the pan. Add a pinch or two of salt (to taste) and the red pepper flakes. Stir in the 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then add the littleneck clams. Cover the pan and reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer for 6 to 7 minutes, or until the clams have opened. Discard any clams that do not open.

Carefully remove the opened clams from the pan and transfer them to a separate bowl. Set aside. Increase the heat in the pan to medium. Add the partially cooked linguine directly into the pan with the clam sauce, tossing to coat the pasta thoroughly. If the sauce appears too thick, add some of the reserved pasta water, 1 to 2 tablespoons at a time, until the desired consistency is reached. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes, allowing the pasta to absorb some of the sauce.

Turn off the heat. Return the cooked clams to the pan. Add the unsalted butter, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Toss gently to combine, allowing the butter to melt and create a rich sauce. Garnish with additional fresh parsley.

Serve immediately and enjoy your Linguine with Clams!
