Prepare the fruits: Slice the apple and pear into wedges. The core of the apple should be retained, as it contains beneficial nutrients.

Prepare the vegetables: Slice the onion into thin strips. Slice the 3 cabbage leaves into strips. Peel the ginger and prepare 2 slices.

Layer the pot: Choose a heavy pot with a tight-fitting lid. Place the sliced onion on the bottom of the pot. Layer the sliced apples and pears on top of the onions. Place the sliced cabbage leaves on top of the fruits. Position the clean whole chicken on top of the cabbage, and place the 2 ginger slices on the chicken.

Seal the pot: If the pot lid is wobbly or not perfectly tight, place a layer of baking paper over the pot opening before putting the lid on to ensure no steam escapes during cooking.

Cook: Cover the pot tightly with the lid. Cook on very low heat until the ingredients release their sweet, nourishing broth. The cooking time is approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

Season and Serve: After cooking, carefully remove the lid. Add salt to taste to the broth. The chicken will be very tender, with meat easily falling off the bone. The rich broth, often referred to as 'liquid gold' or 'chicken essence,' can be served.
